This episode Severity braved the chilly mountain air to come to the Altitude 507 studio and drop a fantastic guest mix of all his own original productions (and a couple of his own remixes). Brazilian by birth, Severity is a familiar presence beind the decks at Sydney’s drum&bass parties, and his productions (which are mostly on the melodic, liquid side) have gone from strength to strength.

Keep an ear out for his track ‘The Journey’ featuring MC Astro, forthcoming on Liquid V – the first time he’s played it is on this podcast episode – as well two tracks forthcoming on Unchained, ‘Broken Hearted’ and ‘Fakeworld’ – the latter the last track of the mix, which demonstrates a new direction for his sound, branching out into footwork-inspired territory.

As always, there’s also plenty of jazz, soul, dub techno and reggae, some of which are also local productions (as part of the local spotlight segment) – as well as four key tracks Severity picked out as formative in his own musical journey. Alchemist (aka Amy Kisnorbo) is the guest for the third episode of Altitude 507. An experienced singer whose vocals graced Royalston’s Popular Mechanics LP (Medschool) and the live act ElectroMagneticPeople, she has recently earned a strong reputation as a DJ in Sydney’s drum&bass scene, with upcoming gigs supporting internationals Djinn and Signal, and has also been honing her craft as a producer – her first release, ‘Pleasure State’, is available on Bandcamp. In the Altitude 507 studios, she talks about her influences and journey in music, and her guest mix is spans multiple styles and genres to form a cohesive, compelling and unique whole. There’s also plenty of reggae, dub, and bass music.

Rob has been shaking things up on the Sydney reggae scene, with new nights like the Reggae Vinyl Social Club at Newtown’s Jamaica House. He brings some gems from his record box to share with you, our listeners.

For each episode of Altitude 507, we invite on a guest to talk us through some tracks that have special meaning to them, and then let them loose on the decks for a guest mix. Each episode also features a local spotlight on music by artists in or around the Sydney area, the track of the moment, Inna Riddim past and present: something from the vault of our back catalogue, and something just realised or forthcoming – in this case a track by Kobra Kai we’ve just got back from mastering.

If there’s a name synonymous with Grime in Australia it has to be Juzlo. As a pioneer of Grime, Dubstep and Drum & Bass his involvement in the scene can’t be denied – not only a forefront member of the mighty TJS crew and founder of Royal Rollers, he’s currently leading the charge in Sydney with his RELOAD! events, Juzlo is the masthead cutting through the perpetual sound waves of Sydney bass-heavy music.

As a producer, his heavy Grime and Dubstep tunes are always dancefloor-centric whilst retaining musical character that sets him apart from the current musical zeitgeist; with collaborations coming out on the new Smash Bros EP, singles with MC Swarmy of Overproof and productions coming out on Gargoyles new album, you can’t deny this man’s output. Juzlo’s reputation as the Australian Grime beat don is cemented also through productions on MC Fraksha’s ground breaking ‘It’s Just Bars’ mix tape and through the international interest his tracks have garnered with support from London’s Oil Gang Records and DJ Myrikal.

In Copenhagen dubstep is really big, but we are couple of guys who are trying to introduce other strains of garage to the scene, and so far it’s actually kind of working.
