V/A: Panoramic EP 01 [ INNAR005 ]

Inna Riddim Records is all about crossing boundaries between styles. That’s why we’re so excited about this release: four tracks from four producers in four genres (funky, grime, techno, dubstep). Together, the EP takes the listener through each phase of a night out:

Warm up for a big one with pre-party drinks to ‘Scifunk’, After Dark‘s first release in his own right. Disjointed funky beats, scattered percussion half-submerged by filter sweeps stake out a rhythm that swings side-to-side while it staggers / swag- gers forward, drunken master style.

Then it’s prime time on the dancefloor with Juzlo‘s instrumental grime track ‘Pick Pocket’, militant reverb-drenched lead synths and a monumental bassline riding a double-snared halfstep like a 300lb gorilla on a mountain bike.

After the club head to a free party in a disused warehouse with Dave Bethell‘s techno track ‘Ether’: haunting synths swirl like troubled spirits around a beat that locks in the dance to its compulsive, almost obsessive succession of 808 kicks, open hihats and sibilant snares.

At the end of the night, float home on an endorphin rush with Grimace‘s ‘Away From Me’: a euphoric melody glides in and out of an ocean of pads, bound together by a 4×4 beat with a halfstep kick, and an undulating, unfurling trail of funky stabs and hihats.

Its a nice track, but i hope “less ifonctieus” wasn’t a goal of the track, i prefer more deeper releases on hyperdub. but funky is a great producer. definitely will look out for more
